Boxes have held a special place within the Japanese traditional culture for centuries. From the bento lunch boxes to New Years gift boxes, each type has its own traditional use. Nowadays a lot of these boxes are lacquerware. However, our weighty porcelain ju-bako are a new take on this tradition. They can be used to preserve food, or as a serving bowl at the table.

Luca Nichetto is a designer with international acclaim, having begun his career in 1999 working for reknowned brands like Foscarini. Quickly gaining traction, he opened his own multi-disciplinary design studio in 2006 in Venice, followed by a second studio in Stockhold in 2011. Nichetto's designs are a result of the combined influence of Scandinavian and Italian cultures, joining together craftsmanship with industrial processes. His works with Sancal exhibit the finetuning of form and function.
