PH 3½-2½ Table

The table lamp provides a downward directed glare-free soft light with the white painted inner side of the top metal shade and two lower shades of mouth-blown three-layer white opal glass. Poul Henningsen found this combination yielded the light more effectively when he designed the lamp in 1928. Henningsen had a distinct scientific approach to light and continued to design numerous luminaires based on the same celebrated three-shade system, which he invented in 1925 to shape excellent non-glare lighting. He used the logarithmic spiral as the foundation and accomplished even distribution of light with the multi-shade-system, which together with a dispersed reflection through the glass made it achievable to curb glare and shadow. Each PH lamp number refers to the size of its shades. The PH 3½ - 2½ Table consists of a top shade of approximately 35 cm with lower shades from the 2½ version.
